Young Achievers is a comprehensive college-preparatory program for high-achieving students operating through Boys & Girls Clubs of San Antonio. Through weekly workshops, college visits, complimentary access to the SAT, and a dedicated mentor program Young Achievers aims for its participants to enter high school with a complete understanding of the college admissions and financial aid process. As participants transition into high school they remain connected to the program, receiving additional support and guidance as well as opportunities for community service and intellectual enrichment.
Participating schools in the Young Achievers program currently include:
• Rhodes Middle School (SAISD)
• Metzger Middle School (Judson ISD)
• Terrell Wells Middle School (HISD)
• Shepard Middle School (South San ISD)
In its eight year history Young Achievers has produced SIX Gates Millennium Scholars - one of the most prestigious scholarships in the nation.
Become a Mentor
The signature aspect of Young Achievers is its mentor program. Over a ten-week period during each spring semester, dynamic individuals from throughout the community match with a student in an effort to promote their intellectual development. Specifically, the program is designed to improve students' writing ability by addressing the college admissions essay. Participating mentors will coach students through the writing process, offering tips and strategies to make the writing process more manageable. Each program concludes with a College Essay Writing Challenge and the winning student receives a $25 Gift Card.
We are currently recruiting mentors for Spring 2018. If you are interested in participating please complete the Young Achievers Mentor Program Questionnaire.
In Their Own Words
"I found the Young Achievers program to be immensely valuable, not just to the talented young adults I worked with, but to my own personal learning growth as well. It was extraordinarily refreshing to work with such bright young minds on a regular basis, and help them more clearly articulate their goals and dreams. I am proud and grateful to have played a role in their young lives, and strongly believe that the value the program provides to everyone involved is limitless."
