2020 YOUTH OF THE YEAR GALA

Youth of the Year is a signature Boys & Girls Clubs program that prepares the next generation for leadership in a diverse, global and integrated world economy. This program recognizes exemplary teens who have made significant contributions to their family, school, community, and Boys & Girls Clubs of San Antonio. During this special event, five Youth of the Year finalists, ages 16-18, present their personal stories of triumph in the face of adversity for a chance to win college scholarships and advance to the state competition in March.

Join us on March 4 as we celebrate each of our finalists and honor our longtime supporters, Hixon Properties & the Hixon Family.

Youth of the Year Aaliyah Glover

Aaliyah Glover, graduate of Stevens High School, was named the 2019 Youth of the Year during the 2nd Annual Youth of the Year Gala at the Mays Family Clubhouse. Aaliyah was a member of Boys & Girls Clubs of San Antonio for 11 years, a medaled swimmer, and team captain of her school’s varsity swim team. She first discovered her passion for swimming at the age of seven during swim lessons at the Calderon Clubhouse on San Antonio’s Westside. Aaliyah is now a freshman at Texas A&M University where she is studying to be a neuroscientist or cardiologist.

During her speech at the Youth of the Year Gala, Aaliyah took a moment to thank everyone for her Club experience.

“I want to say thank you to the Boys & Girls Club for giving me opportunities of a lifetime. Things that I will take with me to college and in my future. You gave me the chance to really find myself.”

The 2020 Youth of the Year Gala Champion for Youth Award is being presented in honor of Hixon Properties and the Hixon Family.

Since 1975, this family-owned business has operated in Texas, developing and investing in real estate, particularly within the urban cores of San Antonio and Austin. Beyond real estate, Hixon Properties extends their investment in the communities they serve through philanthropy and service.

This commitment to the local community is built into the fabric of the company through the legacy of the late George C. “Tim” Hixon, and his wife, Karen, who have played a key role in establishing the philanthropic tone for the company.  Many within the Hixon Properties team hold positions on nonprofit boards and give of their personal time to support the company in its effort to improve the community.

Hixon Properties has an established philanthropic mission statement to reflect the seriousness of their commitment, and the company provides extensive financial support to local nonprofits annually consistent with its philanthropic mission. Hixon Properties and the Hixon Family share a clear vision for the community outcomes they hope to achieve, and they fulfill that vision by giving their time, talent, and financial support to improve the lives of people in San Antonio.

Since 2012, Boys & Girls Clubs of San Antonio has been heartened by the generous support of both Hixon Properties and The Hixon Family, who made a multiyear commitment to support academic excellence for some of San Antonio’s most vulnerable young people at the Clubs. It is our pleasure to present the 2020 Champion for Youth Award to Hixon Properties and the Hixon Family.
